Questions people ask
Who can be a surrogate with Poppy?
Surrogates are 21 to 42 and have had at least one healthy, full-term pregnancy. You also go through medical and psychological screening before matching. [[PLACEHOLDER: full surrogate eligibility criteria]]
How much are surrogates paid, and what benefits come with it?
Pay starts from $65,000, plus benefits. Benefits are set out in your agreement and cover costs that come with the pregnancy. [[PLACEHOLDER: benefits list]] Funds are held in independent escrow, so payments follow the agreement, not anyone's goodwill.
What about health insurance?
We review your current health insurance before you are matched. If it does not cover surrogacy, the intended parents pay for a policy that does. You should not be paying medical bills for the pregnancy yourself. [[PLACEHOLDER: insurance review process]]
How does matching work?
We introduce you to intended parents whose wishes line up with yours, such as how much contact you want during and after the pregnancy. You read each other's profiles and then meet, usually by video first. Nobody is matched until both sides say yes.
What support do I get during pregnancy and after birth?
You have one Poppy case lead from screening to recovery, and your own lawyer, separate from the intended parents' lawyer. We check in regularly during the pregnancy and stay in touch after delivery while you recover. [[PLACEHOLDER: counseling or support group details]]
How long does surrogacy take?
Screening and matching can take a few months. Then come the legal agreements, medical preparation and the embryo transfer, followed by the pregnancy itself. From application to birth it often takes well over a year, and we give you a clearer timeline once you are screened.
